The Room To Grow Competition

The Room to Grow Competition consists of two awards that celebrate growth in professional photography and developing a partnership in excellence with a local professional photo finisher. One award will be given to a current or recent student looking to start a business as a professional photographer. The other will be awarded to a new professional photographer looking to begin a business and develop their craft and profession.

The Room to Grow Award will be awarded to an applicant in each segment that best exemplifies professionalism, creativity and a technical understanding of the elements of photography.

Requirements

Professional Photographers

Applicants are expected to have been in business for at least one year, no more than five years and have an online presence. Having permanent studio space is not a requirement. Along with application a Professional Statement and Portfolio will be expected to be postmarked or received by April 11, 2011. Portfolio images can be submitted as a printed piece no smaller than 8x10 or in digital high-res JPG format on CD. All images must be the property of the applicant and not in violation of any copyright laws. Portfolio should include at least 10 images (maximum 20). At least three of the following categories must be entered.

Professional Award is for a $3,000.00 lab credit to be used at Printmakers, Inc.

Photography Students

Applicants must be currently enrolled in a higher education institution, in the final year of studying photography or have graduated within the past year. Applicant must also be looking to be a professional photographer upon graduation. Application must be filled out in full accompanied by Professional Statement and Portfolio Images and be postmarked or received by June 6, 2011. Portfolio image should be submitted as a printed piece no smaller than 8x10 or in digital high-res JPG format on CD. All images must be the property of the applicant and not in violation of any copyright laws. Portfolio should include at least 10 images (maximum 20). At least three of the following categories must be entered.

Student Award is for a $1,000.00 lab credit to be used at Printmakers, Inc.

Professional Statement

Please answer the following question based on your experience on a seperate sheet of paper, responses are expected to be 1-2 pages.

Professional Applicants:  What goals do you have for your business in both the long and short term and how will you go about achieving those goals?

Student Applicants:  What type of photography will you focus on in your career and how will you structure your business?
